11+ on a Homeschool Timetable Without Turning the House into a Tuition Centre

If you are homeschooling in Kent, Bucks, or a grammar-school pocket of London, someone will tell you that you are already too late. That someone is often selling a Saturday class.

The 11+ is a filter dressed as a test. It rewards speed, accuracy, and familiarity with the paper's tricks. It does not measure whether you were a kind Year 6.

What a solid primary sequence already covers

A child who has actually finished a coherent maths course through Grade 5 and Grade 6 is not starting from zero. Number, fractions, basic algebra thinking, and word problems overlap the exam. Verbal reasoning is its own creature. Non-verbal reasoning is a puzzle habit. English comprehension is reading a lot of real books, not a worksheet called "inference."

Oxford-aligned work helps the maths spine. It does not replace past papers in the last year if you are aiming at a particular grammar.

A timetable that does not eat the child

• Keep the ordinary maths and English lessons. Do not throw them out for papers in March of Year 4.
• In the year of the exam, add two short timed papers a week, then go to the park.
• Teach the tricks once. Timing is a skill. Panic is not.

If the child is melting, the school you wanted is more expensive than the fee. It costs a child who thinks numbers are a threat.

Homeschool and the 'local children first' politics

Some areas are fighting over who gets in. That is not a curriculum problem. Do not buy a third workbook to solve a political one.
